Glossary of Terms for Custom Soft Extruded Vinyl Profiles
Coextrusion - An extrusion produced by utilizing two or more extruders to melt and deliver a steady volumetric throughput of different viscous plastics to a single extrusion head. Coextrusions can consist of soft and rigid vinyls bonded together during the extrusion process.Alternative Terms: Dual Extrusion, Dual Durometer Extrusion
Polypropylene - A thermoplastic addition polymer made from the monomer propylene. Polypropylene is resistant to many chemical solvents, bases and acids.
PVC - The abbreviation for polyvinyl chloride, a thermoplastic polymer used for both rigid and soft extruded profiles. The properties of pvc make it an excellent choice for a variety of products manufactured by Tex-Trude including weather seals, commercial window glazing, door astragals, mini blind slats, spline wire, glazing beads, door sweeps and coextruded profiles.
Santoprene - A thermoplastic elastomer produced by the cross linking of EPDM rubber and polypropylene. Environmental aging resistance, electrical properties and liquid resistance are similar to EPDM rubber. As a result santoprene is often used for gaskets.
